FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(CANNES, FRANCE)  GIL MARKLE, AMERICAN RECORD PRODUCER IN ATTENDANCE AT M.I.D.E.M., HAS DENIED THAT THERE ARE ANY POLITICAL MOTIVES OR INSINUATIONS BEHIND THE TUNE "THIRD WORLD BLUES," A RECENT RELEASE BY DAVID REID ON THE LONG VIEW LABEL.

"YOU CAN ALWAYS READ SOMETHING INTO ANYTHING," MARKLE RECENTLY SAID IN PORT-OF-SPAIN, TRINIDAD. "BUT THIS BUSINESS IS NONSENSE. I MEAN, THAT 'THIRD WORLD BLUES' IS SOME SORT OF TONGUE-IN-CHEEK PROPAGANDA IN SERVICE OF THE WEST. I DON'T KNOW WHO THOUGHT THAT UP, BUT HE SHOULD HAVE HIS HEAD EXAMINED."

RECENT AIRPLAY OF THE TUNE IN THE WINDWARD ISLANDS HAD RESULTED IN SPECULATION BY FUN-LOVING DJS THAT THIS IS AN 'APARTHEID NOVELTY SINGLE' DESIGNED TO TAUNT AND DEMORALIZE THIRD WORLD POPULATIONS FROM ACROSS HOSTILE WESTERN BORDERS.

"NONSENSE," MARKLE INSISTS. "DAVID REID IS A POP ACT. 'THIRD WORLD BLUES' IS A POP TUNE. THE THEME JUST HAPPENS TO BE TOPICAL AND TROPICAL AT THE SAME TIME. I CAN INTRODUCE YOU TO CITIZENS OF THE THIRD WORLD WHO LOVE THE SONG."
